• Baseball: Cal Ripken get his one and only World Series ring as the Baltimore Orioles defeat the Philadelphia Phillies four games to one in the fall classic.

• Football: The Washington Redskins defeat the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XVII at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.  Dan Marino would never reach the Super Bowl again in his career

• Basketball: The Philadelphia 76ers sweep the Los Angeles Lakers four games to none to capture the NBA championship.

• Hockey: The New York Islanders defeat the Edmonton Oilers to secure their fourth Stanley Cup win in a row.
