During the course of our events, clients, guests and wait staff are amazed and curious as to how our equipment works.  How can we be "spinnin vinyl" records or playing cd's through our computer?  Technology is amazing isn't it?

Disc Jockeys used to simply have two turntables,  a mixer and regular vinyl records. They would play and rotate them. Records eventually evolved into compact discs and DJ oriented Cd Players became normal and widely used.  While this method still works well for some dj's, technology has afforded us the ability to take advantage of another method.

Rane's Serato Scratch Live enables dj's to use two control records or cd's,  playing with conventional cd or turntables,  which send signals to a computer through a converter box.  This enables dj's to have control and the conventional feel of "Spinnin' Vinyl" without the hassles and clutter of hundreds of records.  It also enables the DJ to select and play songs in a matter of seconds.  It's as simple as typing in a song title, artists or phrase from the song to find it in the system database, then, just drag drop and click.

You might say to yourself: I can do that with my Ipod or digital music player!

Digital music players are great for home or personal use. However, there are many things an ipod simply can't do.  An Ipod playlist cannot replace the personal service and attention to detail and spontaneity that a DJ creates.  An ipod doesn't know what's going on during the party.  An ipod doesn't understand flow.  An ipod cannot mix and beat match music so your dance floor doesn't stop.  If you are considering using an ipod for your event,  please reconsider and leave it to the professionals!
